When children hear positive feedback on a consistent
basis, they thrive on it,
are encouraged by it and they believe in their
hearts and minds they will achieve what they set out to do. As a result of
positive affirmations, they are encouraged and learn to believe in themselves.

Teaching Old School Manners
Monday, August 30, 2010A repost from Peytyn Willborn.
Nowadays people rarely look at each other and speak in passing. Saying "please" and "thank you" are becoming exceptions rather than norms. Respect and manners seem to be quickly disappearing from society.
To ensure this does not happen, Tara Jackson, Founder and Director of Spirit of Beauty (Spirit) and author of Diva Alphabet, is determined to instill old school manners in young people today.
Jackson remembers when "there were always etiquette schools and programs" in
her home state of Alabama.
Such programs did not exist when she moved to Chicago
in 1989. When she had children of her own,
she was inspired to lead by example.
She also wanted to expose children in the community to good manners.
Her desire
led her to begin Spirit of Beauty, a social development and empowerment program
that has
been teaching etiquette, self-respect and respect for others and
confidence to girls ages 4 to 6 for over eight years.
Her commitment to young people has grown to include both The Distinguished
Gentleman program, where boys
ages 12 to 16 are groomed for success through
professional and social development, proper manners,
and interviewing skills,
and Future Leaders Camp, a summer camp for boys and girls ages 5 to 16 that
incorporates Junior Achievement and family unity while serving as a safe haven
for participants. All programs are "centered around creating a mind set of
success and respect for self and others."
